You have an uninvited guest in the house that waits for you every time you open the door. And we’re not talking about your cat. It’s your cat urine odor that’s the culprit here. The good news is that you can remove the smell of cat pee if you use the following methods:

Wipe the urine and clean the litter as often as possible

When you notice that the cat peed somewhere other than the litter, try clearing as much urine as possible, as soon as possible. If the cat peed on the carpet or on the couch, clean the area with a wet towel. You will not be able to absorb all the urine, but you’ll leave behind a smaller amount that will emanate the unmistakable smell.

If the cat peed on the bed linen or on your clothes, wash them as quickly as possible. Detergents containing baking soda or enzymatic additives are best for removing urine smell.

Use an enzymatic detergent

Enzyme-based detergents release bacteria consume the urine, leaving the area clean after drying. Non-protein based detergents will not face the intense smell of cat urine. Cats have more developed sense of smell than humans. Thus, if the odor is not removed completely and correctly, your cat will smell it and will be attracted to pee in the same place again.
By using enzyme-based detergents the smell is completely removed and your cat will not be tented to pee in the same place. These detergents can be found in pet shops.

Clean the area with the water vacuum cleaner, but do not use steam

These types of vacuum cleaners release water in the fabric, which is completely vacuumed after along with the dirt. This method is ideal for carpets, sofas, chairs etc. Avoid using steam cleaners. The intense heat will cause the scent to permeate stronger inside the fabric.

Refresh the air with a baking soda-based spray

Baking soda has a huge capacity to absorb odors. Sprinkle it in the area where you found urine (on the parquet, carpet, sofa). Let it act for an hour or two then remove it with the water vacuum cleaner.
