Even if we talk about the chopper, the wooden spoon or patties spatula, kitchen utensils made of wood need special attention when we clean them. See how to do this and how to disinfect them.

Wash and disinfect
Wood, especially the handcrafted one, has a porous surface, with chips that allow the accumulation of bacteria, fungi and other dangerous microbes.

To be sure you clean them properly, do not superficial wash them under running water or in the dishwasher.

Use rubber gloves and rub strongly the joints and bends, using dish soap and a sponge or a rough dish brush.

Disinfection with chlorine
To be sure you do not infect food with harmful bacteria or fungi which can attack your internal organs, you must disinfect wooden kitchen utensils more often.

The most simple and convenient way to get rid of germs gathered on the chopper or on wooden spoons is to make a solution of one part chlorine to 20 parts water. Leave wooden kitchen utensils in this solution (completely covered in liquid) for about an hour.

Wash utensils with soap and warm water and leave them to soak in warm soapy water for about 10 minutes to remove the smell of chlorine.

Rinse well with warm water and let them dry in the sun on all sides.
